This is one of my favorite closets because of the natural wood flaws. Not really flaws for it is nature's prints on wood. It is also nice that the folded clothing does have doors but the hanging is open.

The Galleria is a beautiful building that also represents other furniture manufactures. The showroom is designed to entice Design Center clients as they are walking by. It is the only closet company in The San Francisco Design Center.

When clients approach the showroom, the first thing they see is a walk-in master bedroom closet. This unit has a furniture look and features multiple hanging sections, beveled and raised panel doors, molding and custom baseboard, shoe drawers, custom velvet lined jewelry trays and an island with a seat. This high-end unit showcases Closet Innovations’ custom capabilities, primarily its abilities to manufacture custom cabinets.

A new Kitchen display is fabricated with zebrawood, an eco-friendly product with many other patterns to choose from.

From the pages of Living Etc. Magazine I found this photo of an amazing closet in a bathroom. Rather I could say, a closet bathroom combo. I have only created a couple of closet wardrobes in bathrooms, I would not suggest it for the moisture of the bathroom creates mildew on the clothing without realizing it is happening. It would be much better if a closet had double doors to the bathroom so one can open it up when dressing but not leave it open all the time.

Although once I thought it out there was only one plan that I could design for this space. It certainly maximized the space for this client in Walnut Creek without wasting any space or creating difficult access for her clothing. It came out very nice and very functional.

This wall system, I originally designed for my client in Napa with no backing on their plain white wall. Years later, we contacted a colorist from the Oakland area by the name of Kathy Farley of ART DECOR, also a painter to come out and consult us on color. She did a magnificent job in specifying wonderful colors through out the house Here on the wall system we added a colorful painted backing and the home owner had the wall painted. What a difference color makes in a home. This house and others with the gems of color painted walls and trim makes me happy.

A unique bed for a client's second floor landing. Not really a room and not an area that is large enough for a wall bed or a full size guest bed. This way we created a sofa for watching the T.V. that is behind the mirrors and a single size guest bed for a guest. The mirrors also house a home office desk and the sides of the bed have the end table with additional storage space.

The mosaics that wind around an outside patio were created by Alan Shepp and depicts the history of the Mexicans and Chinese and others in the Napa Valley and their tragedies with the Klu Klux Clan and other such groups.

Not really a closet system specifically for our company of Closet Innovations / Innovative Design Group is a fully licensed custom cabinetry company in California. We design custom cabinets for all sorts of spaces, I just love designing closets. To be more specific we design custom European Integral Custom Cabinets. Integral means the cabinetry are not module but the parts integrate together. What ever I draw we can create as long as I honor gravity and the state laws of California Building Codes and California State Contractors Codes.

I have noticed in the 20 years that I have been designing, is that many companies are not licensed and do not design correctly. Many of our clients in the 20 years of being in business have the same closet standing in their closet as well as the other custom spaces that we have designed for them; Home Offices, Pantries, Garages, Kitchens and other storage spaces. This comes from good design and excellent materials and construction.

The above closet is a very nice large closet system or closet design in St. Helena for a husband and wife. Simple, but well organized, well built and very well planned for maximized space.

CUSTOM SHOE STORAGE IDEAS Here are a few custom shoe storage and shelving ideas from my files of 20 years of designing closets. I have a scrap book on my iPad that gives me inspiration or reflection of what works or what does not work well. The simpler, is the better for easy access and view. Men do prefer slanted shoe shelves with the shoes facing forward. Since they generally do not have too many shoes the space needed for slanted shoes shelves generally works out just fine. MULTIFUNCTIONAL STORAGE

Make the most out the space you have in tight living quarters.

A problem with living in San Francisco, besides the expense, is the lack of storage space. The above table has some storage below it as well as having wheels for easy moving to clean or to use as a work station. My desk made by my colleagues at CLOSET INNOVATIONS is quite similar with drawers and paper storage. I use it as a desk and drafting table while working at home. When I entertain for dinner, I have a nifty dining room table just as the one above.

JEWELRY DRAWERS & TREASURE DRAWERS

These are a few examples of some beautiful, well organized and very efficient Jewelry Drawers. I have even included a Treasure Drawer otherwise known as a Junk Drawer for a gentleman's closet.

Most of the time I line the jewelry drawers with a luscious black velvet for women and a sturdy and durable Ultra-Suede Cloth for the gentleman. The Ultra-Suede's thick suede like texture acts to quite the noise of the user throwing his change and junk in. At least, this way his coins are not on top of a counter or some where else inappropriate throughout the house.

Delightful and whimsical hand created and designed decorative pulls and knobs for every closet and cabinetry in the home.

Rosalie Sherman, a fine artist based outside Philadelphia has pursed her dream of being an artist of animals. She graduated Philadelphia College of Art in the 60’s and has spent the following decades exploring a variety of materials: woods, fabric, steel, aluminum, clay and now pewter.

She has made sculptures/benches for parks in Pennsylvania, animal seating for a subway stop in Boston, dog and cat sculptures for the front of a county animal shelter in Florida, play sculptures for a children’s hospital in Oregon, and benches and sculptures for schools in Maryland.

Now, she’s turned her attention to everyday surroundings, making affordable sculptures for the home. In her studio outside of Philadelphia, she creates hooks that are giraffes and penguins, knobs of dogs named Bob and a myriad of animals and people you could hang your hat on, literally.

It pleases Rosalie to know her little cast of characters are opening cabinets and holding brooms in the homes around the world.

Cannot say he was my client, but it would be an interesting job... A custom designed closet for the Pope would be very well organized with lots of long hang sections for his gowns and shelves for his yarmulke hats. I did design a closet for a priest in San Francisco about 10 years ago. He had obviously left the priesthood but I saw in his closet, a few boxes of white collars that priests use and he had a black cassock.

I designed a special knife display for the Culinary Institute of America retail store here in St. Helena. It is to display and store back stock of the top four knife companies in the world. Closet Innovations built it in a mahogany wood with a shaker style type door front to coordinate with the grand old design of the building in which it is housed. The old building in St. Helena before it became the Culinary Institute of America was the Christian Brothers Winery long ago.

SIGMA KAPPA SORORITY AT U.C. BERKELEY

Long over due with young women at our local university's having more clothing these days, Sigma Kappa Sorority at the U.C. Berkeley campus had to re-think their dorm rooms decor. All the dressers they had in the rooms were cluttering the spaces and the wasted old fashion wall closets were not convenient or efficient any more. So Malka working with the Alumni and manger created these custom wardrobe wall systems with drawers, shelving and hanging rods for each of the sorority's rooms. Now the rooms have more space to add another bed or a couple desks for homework.

All constructed in excellence by CLOSET INNOVATIONS OF SAN FRANCISCO. The top photo is of the Sorority's royal old building on campus, the following photos are the before, the process, then the completion or rather "after."

This beautiful Mud Room is in the back of this lovely home in St. Helena and serves as the entry for the family.

It is good practice in Chinese Feng Shui to organize and beautify the entry of your home. Since the home owners and their children enter through the back porch, it was a good thing to organize and decorate it so it creates a pleasant feeling upon arriving home.

I designed this Mud Room along with the client to fit the needs of her two children and husband. It includes a mixture of clothes hanging hooks, cabinets and open shelving.

CUSTOM CLOSET ORGANIZED TO THE HILT

Can you believe all of these drawers are full and organized. This client had to downsize to a home three times smaller than the house she moved from. Therefore an enormous need to call upon a Closet Designer that knows her stuff. Yes, after 20 years, I should. We maximized the closet and gave her the many drawers and adjustable shelving and clothing rods she needed so desperately. I am not sure if she can go shopping after this downs size, certainly she must purge before she does.

I like this look in a closet; lots of fun clothing and an equally cute and fun young woman. The closet is custom designed of course and nicely painted in a blue. Many of my clients feel the closets should be a plain white or off white in fear that their clothes would clash with a colored closet. Yet here the blue compliments the clothing. Since clothing closets have a multitude of colors why not the closet cabinetry. I would love to use several different colors in a custom closet with Closet Innovations, with fun knobs and pulls.

Here in this dream closet of a life time with all the compartments this client would ever need.

Appropriate shelving for shoes and nicely deep shelving for her sweaters. Typically sweaters on a closet shelf are two shallow and the sweaters just tumble to the floor. These shelves at 16" deep allow tops and sweaters their due space. Corners are easy to access with delicately curved top shelving for out of season storage. Deeper drawers are in the center of the closet for all the little things that do not set well on shelves or rods. Those little things are of course our knickers and hose and maybe a jewelry drawer, but that is a secret a closet designer keeps with her client.

While storing away some of your fine garments in your closet or dresser, enclose them in a fabric envelope that you can purchase or make yourself.
